The pub has an elegant Regency-style frontage and dates back to 1775.

It once served the Floral Tea Gardens, on 18th Century tourist attraction. It was the last jail between the old jail at Notting Hill and Hangman’s gallows at Marble Arch .Legend says that the cart transporting the condemned men would often stop here so that the prisoner could have the last Drink before been taken to Gallows and this was where the saying”onc for the road” and “he is on wagon” come from.

On a happier note, we are now renowned for the excellent food we serve from our own menu which includes many homemade dishes and a daily Carvery. There is good quality wine to complement the meal or a fine selection of draught beers and real ales at the bar. Being so central, the vast majority of our clientele are visitors and tourists. If you are coming to London, don't forget to receive your warm, hospitable welcome from the helpful team at The Swan.

(The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
